Model Curriculum Update Announcement

The Pennsylvania School Librarians Association is pleased to announce the

The Model Curriculum for Learners in Pennsylvania School Libraries (2019)

https://www.psla.org/model-curriculum-for-learners-in-pa-school-libraries-2019-

Between May and September of 2019, the Model Curriculum Committee developed The Model Curriculum for Learners in Pennsylvania School Libraries as an update and expansion of Stage 1 of The Model Curriculum for PA School Library Programs published in 2012by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, Pennsylvania Department of Education.

This new update adds the alignment of:

  • The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries (2017)
  • The International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students (2016)
  • The Pennsylvania Career Education and Work standards
  • The Pennsylvania Career Ready Skills Continuum

and also includes revisions to alignment with the PA Academic Standards.

We are excited for school librarians in PA to utilize and share this stellar document. We know that you will find this document useful in many ways. Whether you are updating your curriculum to align to AASL Standards, starting a new curriculum, using it to help you plan your daily lesson plans or sharing it with stakeholders to show how school librarians impact student learning for career and college ready skills - we know you'll make effective use of all aspects of this work. Checkout the Roadmap section on page 4 for guidance.

Look for information about training at Pre-Conference on April 30, 2020 as well as upcoming regional trainings in your area.
