Outstanding Pennsylvania Author and/or IllustratorThe Outstanding Pennsylvania Author and/or Illustrator Award recognizes an author and/or illustrator who has made a notable contribution to the field of literature for youth. 2020 Recipient: Laurie Halse Anderson Author Laurie Halse Anderson has been awarded multiple impressive honors and accolades for the more than thirty books she has written, which range from picture books to young adult literature and include both fiction and nonfiction. These awards include, to mention just a few: National Book Award finalist, the Margaret A. Edwards Award for her significant contribution to young adult literature, and being short-listed for the Carnegie Medal. Laurie has lived in Pennsylvania at many times throughout her life, and many of her books are set in Pennsylvania of the present or the past. In addition to writing and researching these many acclaimed books, Laurie also is a leader and activist in fighting both censorship and sexual assault. Her identities as activist and author are intrinsically intertwined, and she invites and inspires all to join her in speaking up and out.
