Revitalizing Leaders (18-19)

In 2016-2017 the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association (PSLA) and the University of Pittsburgh School Library Certification Program announced the first Sustaining Leaders Academy for PA School Librarians (SLA), funded by a third Library Services and Technology Act grant from Commonwealth Libraries (PA Department of Education). This collaborative offered twenty experienced school librarians from across Pennsylvania the opportunity to revitalize their leadership competencies. The SLA model is based on the success of the 2014 and 2015 Emerging Leaders Academies, in which 44 librarians new to profession participated.

What is the Sustaining Leaders Academy?

The SLA is an innovative, immersive professional development experience designed to sustain the current generation of school library leaders in PA schools and in PSLA to assure a systematic succession plan so that Pennsylvania students will have strong and effective school library programs led by school librarians who are leaders in their schools and professional associations at the local, regional and state levels in the coming decades.
